• Living Room (above sofa)
• Bedroom (above bed)
• Dining Room
• Home Office or Study Room
• Fireplace

Living Room Artwork Sizing Guide

Horizontal Panoramic Oil Painting

• Ideal Width: Spans 66% to 80% of your sofa width to anchor the entire seating area.

• Proportions: Wide landscape format (height is approximately 40% to 50% of the width).

• Placement: Maintain a gap of 6" to 10" between the sofa back and the bottom frame.

• Best For: Standard or wide sofas, filling open wall space horizontally without crowding the ceiling.

1:1 Square Oil Painting

• Ideal Width: Measures 66% to 80% of your sofa width for a bold, centered focal point.

• Proportions: Classic 1:1 ratio (equal height and width).

• Placement: Hang 6" to 10" above the top edge of your sofa.

• Best For: Modern, symmetrical room layouts and balanced aesthetic framing.

3:4 Vertical Oil Painting

• Ideal Width: Covers 33% to 50% of your sofa width for an elegant, architectural feel.

• Proportions: Aspect ratio of 3:4 (height is approximately 133% of the width).

• Placement: Position the bottom edge 6" to 10" above the back of the sofa.

• Best For: Spaces with higher ceilings or when you want to create an illusion of added vertical height.

Pro Tips for Styling Your Living Room Art

• Anchor to the Furniture, Not the Wall: Always center your artwork relative to the sofa rather than the entire wall width to keep the living space grounded.

• Mind the Breathing Room: Leaving 6–10 inches above the sofa prevents the art from feeling disconnected or overwhelmingly crowded.

• The Two-Thirds Rule: When in doubt, aim for art that covers roughly two-thirds (66%) of the length of the furniture beneath it for automatic visual harmony.

Bedroom Artwork Sizing Guide

• Placement: Hang 8" to 12" above the headboard for an open, airy clearance.

• Best For: King or Queen beds with tall headboards, creating a serene, wide-angle landscape view.

1:1 Square Oil Painting

• Ideal Width: Measures 60% to 80% of your headboard width for balanced, symmetrical framing.

• Proportions: Perfectly square 1:1 ratio (equal height and width).

• Best For: Minimalist or modern bedrooms seeking a clean, harmonious centerpiece.

3:4 Vertical Oil Painting

• Proportions: Classic 3:4 aspect ratio (height is approximately 133% of the width).

• Placement: Position the bottom frame 8" to 12" above the top of the headboard.

• Best For: Rooms with high ceilings or low headboards to draw the eye upward and add dimension.

Pro Tips for Styling Your Bedroom Art

• Clear the Headboard Height: Leave 8 to 12 inches above the headboard (slightly higher than living room sofas) to prevent the art from feeling cramped when propping up pillows.

• Center Above the Headboard: Always align your artwork directly to the center of the headboard rather than the entire wall, ensuring the bed acts as the main anchor.

• Choose Calm Scale over Clutter: Bedrooms benefit from peaceful, single-statement pieces—aiming for 60%–80% of your headboard width ensures the room feels relaxed and uncluttered.

• Placement: Position the bottom edge 8" to 12" above the table surface.

• Best For: Spaces with high ceilings, chandeliers, or tall modern dining setups.

Pro Tips for Styling Your Dining Room Art

• Consider Sightlines while Seated: Art in a dining room is often viewed while sitting, so keeping it 8 to 12 inches above the tabletop ensures it stays at an intimate, natural eye level during meals.

• Anchor to the Dining Table: Always line up the horizontal center of the painting with the center of the table rather than the wall, maintaining structural balance.

• Factor in Lighting & Centerpieces: Account for hanging chandeliers or high tabletop decor so they frame—rather than obstruct—the artwork.

Pro Tips for Styling Your Study / Home Office Art

• Standard Eye-Level Height: Aim to position the vertical center of the artwork 57 to 60 inches from the floor, which is standard gallery eye level.

• Create a Clean Zoom Backdrop: If hanging art behind your office chair, ensure the bottom edge sits at least 8 to 12 inches above the desk so monitor setups or chair backs don't obstruct the view during video meetings.

• Complement Desk Accessories: Account for tall desk lamps, dual monitors, or laptop stands so they frame the artwork rather than overlap it.

Fireplace Artwork Sizing Guide

• Best For: High ceilings, tall chimney breasts, or traditional mantels with detailed molding.

Pro Tips for Styling Your Fireplace Art

• Anchor to the Mantel: Center your artwork directly above the mantelpiece rather than the surrounding wall to establish a cohesive focal point for the living room.

• Mind the Gap for Mantel Decor: Leaving 6 to 10 inches above the mantel prevents the bottom frame from being hidden by decorative objects like vases, candles, or greenery.

• Account for Heat and Clearance: If using an active wood-burning or gas fireplace, ensure proper heat shielding or mantel depth to protect hand-painted oil canvases from direct warmth.
