Summer 2024, touring a museum of early computation and ancient scripts in Berlin. I was struck by how punch cards used for early programming shared the same rhythmic, coded structure as ancient Babylonian tablets covered in cuneiform ovals and tally marks.

The technique of using a custom-made rubber stamp for the uniform oval matrix in the top field, contrasted sharply with a stiff, large-toothed comb for the precise vertical tally marks below, was directly inspired by the duality of that coded history.
